The primary purpose of the lifeguard training program is to provide entry level lifeguard skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies and to provide care for sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrives and takes over. This program includes a lifeguard training course with aquatics specific first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. NOTE: Participants MUST pass the pre-test on the first day of class. The test consists of the following: 300-yard swim; tread water for 2 minutes without the use of arms; swim 20 yards, then surface dive to retrieve a 10-lb. brick, swim back to the starting point with both hands on the brick, and climb out of the water without assistance, skill must be performed in under 1minute 40 seconds. Depending on the skills of the participants and their comprehension of the materials presented, the participants may be dismissed early or need to stay later each day. Age group: Teens; TAY.
